ENDLESS FREE-FLOWING MOTIF (2016)

Traditionally, a motif is a visual element that can continue and spread indefinitely, limited only by the surface or support it covers; in other words, a motif has a potential for endless multiplication or extension, but its actual deployment depends on the material context. This definition is explored here in two ways: first, through the creation of a two-dimensional wallpaper exploiting the recursive nature of a motif as it develops into a pattern, emphasizing its hypothetical continuation, the idea that it could extend beyond the surface; second, by transforming the same motif into a virtual volume, floating and rotating endlessly upon itself, like a reversible and autotelic abstract symbol or a mise en abyme in which the motif itself becomes its own support.
